NOTE: Discrepancy on cemetery marker has September but death certificate has October.
On Monday night Mrs. Nancy M. Sitton, after an illness of some weeks, closed her eyes in unbroken sleep that steals over all at the sunset of life's closing day. Mrs. Sitton was one of the best known ladies in Swain County and had reached the age of sixty-nine years. Her disease was heart trouble, and while she had suffered for a number of years, yet her sun of life went down as calmly and peacefully as ends a summer evening. The tribute paid to her name and worth by her pastor, Rev. T. F. Deitz, at the Baptist Church Tuesday afternoon, fitly attested the esteem in which she was held by all, and proved how deeply she was mourned. For fifty nine years she had been a faithful, consecrated christian worker and it was largely through her efforts that Bryson City today has such a splendid church edifice. She was the mother of eleven children, ten of whom survice her and nine of whom were present at the funeral. Her maiden name was Nancy Garren and she was born in Henderson Copunty; married to John H. Sitton at Boilston, N. C., in 1869 and moved to Swain County in 1882.
