HERRIN - Leslie H. Hunt, 78, died 9:40 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 2, 2014, in Herrin Hospital.

Services will be at noon, Monday in Meredith-Waddell Funeral Home in Herrin, with the Rev. Todd Hawk officiating. Burial with military rites will be in Herrin City Cemetery in Herrin. Visitation will be from 10 a.m. to noon, Monday at the funeral home.

January 19, 1935 - January 2, 2014

Leslie H. Hunt, 78, of Herrin passed away 9:40 p.m. Thursday, January 2, 2014 at the Herrin Hospital surrounded by his loving daughters.

Leslie was a retired coal miner having last worked for Consol Rend Lake Mine.

He was a veteran of the U. S. Army during the Korean War, serving from 1954 until 1956.

Leslie was born January 19, 1935 in Energy, IL to Thomas and Mary Rae (Elliott) Hunt.

Leslie was united in marriage to Sandra Joan Blaylock on January 11, 1955 at First Baptist Church in Energy. She preceded him in death on December 10, 1998.

Surviving are four daughters and two sons-in-law, Cindy and Steve Thomas of Pittsburg, MO, Leslie "Jody" and Randy Walker of Colp, Mary Jane Hunt of Herrin, Sue Ann Leggans of Herrin and ten grandchildren, Ryan Van Gorder, Cassie Perkins, Sarah Van Gorder, Stephanie Thomas, Allie Leggans, Frankie Jo Leggans, Desiree' Leggans, Karly Leggans, Sandra Leggans and Makayla Hunt; one great granddaughter, Leia Earl and two great grandchildren one due in May and one due in July of 2014.

He was preceded in death by his wife and parents.

Services will be 12:00 Noon, Monday, January 6, 2014 at Meredith-Waddell Funeral Home in Herrin with Rev. Todd Hawk officiating. Interment with military graveside rites conducted by the Herrin American Legion and VFW Post and the IL Army National Guard Honor detail will be in Herrin City Cemetery in Herrin. Visitation will be from 10:00 a.m. until 12 Noon, Monday, January 6, 2014 at the funeral home.
