Thomas was the son of Lemuel Robbins and Rachel BASS, one of six siblings.

Thomas married Asenatha Griswold July 14, 1796 They had six children: Loring Griswold, Amilia Anna, John Newton, Albert Milton, Thomas Mason & Richard Newman.

Thomas owned a forge with his father, Lemuel, in Salisbury, CT. He was a farmer, iron forger & marble dealer. He and his father were Revolutionary War suppliers.
