Mildred Mae Vaine passed away on December 31, 2013 at New London Hospital at the age of 92. She was born on May 12, 1921, daughter to Cassius , Sr. and Edith (Reed) Wright in Westminster, VT, where she spent the early years of her life.
She was married to Maurice Pelton in 1940 until his death during WWII in 1944. She married Ted Vaine in 1945 and moved to Croydon and then to Newport in 1986. They spent 59 years together until his death in 2004.
Mildred was very much a homebody, enjoying cooking, solitaire, knitting and good television. She counted election ballots for the town of Croydon and was a member of the Good Neighbor Club of Croydon.
Mildred is survived by a son; Theodore Vaine, Jr., of Croydon, 2 daughters; Peggy Northrop of Jacksonville, FL, Ramona Kozikowski of Newport, NH, grandchildren; Ronald Kozikowski, Jr. (Maura Trafton) of Dover, NH, Annette Kozikowski of Newport, Tammy Senft (Kevin) of Franconia, NH, Theodore Vaine III (Carrie) of Richland, TX, Josie Rogers of Maine, Karleigh Clark of Jacksonville, FL, Jeremy Hoyt (Kristen) of Clarksville, TN, and 5 great-grandchildren; Jakob, Brianna, Derik, Jacklyn and Catelin. She is predeceased by 4 brothers; Cassius, Jr., Henry, Dan and Walter.
A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, January 8th at 11am at St. Patrick's Catholic Church, 32 Beech Street, Newport, NH, Fr. Robert Biron officiating, with a burial to follow at St. Patrick's Catholic Cemetery. Visiting hours will be held on Tuesday, January 7th, from 6-8pm at the Newton-Bartlett Funeral Home, 42 Main St., Newport, NH.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Sullivan County Nutrition Transportation Services, 76 South Main St., Newport, NH 03773.
