Arthur Curtis Galyen 73, of Rt.8 Lenoir a retired contractor, died in a local hospital early today Tuesday Jan 3, 1961 following an extended illness.

Mr. Galyen was born in Watauga county Jan. 4, 1887 a son of the late Yancy and Mollie Young Galyen. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his wife Minnie Lee Green Galyen and a son Spencer Galyen.

Surviving are four daughters.Mrs. Anna Mae Vines, Mrs. Virginia Smith, Mrs. Mollie Smith and Mrs. Grace Bryant all of Lenoir. Seven Grandchildren, five brothers, Raymond, Winfred and Estes all of Virginia, Lonnie Galyen of California and Robert Galyen of New York, five sisters, Mrs. Alma Collins, Mrs Frances Carneal, Mrs. Virgie Robertson and Mrs. Maude Bright all of Virginia and Mrs. Evie Crouse of New York.

The funeral will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday Jan 5th. at Holly Springs Primitive Baptist church, with the Rev. Henry McMillian officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.

The body will lie in state at the church for 30 minutes prior to the funeral hour and will remain at the Lenoir Funeral Home until the hour of the service.
