Mrs. Cora Sexton was born August 12, 1863, in Springport, Michigan, the daughter of Orville and Charlotte Bucklin. The family moved to a farm north of Olivet when she was in her twenties, and there she married the late Weston M. Sexton.

Mrs. Sexton taught school in the Duck Lake and Springport area in the "boarding around" days and was a teacher in the Mack district near Olivet when the family moved to Eaton County. A number of Olivet residents of the 1950's remembered her as their teacher.

The Sextons became Olivet residents in the early 1900's and Mrs. Sexton ultimately became president of the Congregational Church Ladies Benevolent Society, charter member and president of the Kedronite Club, active in the Women's Auxiliary Board of Olivet College, and chairman of the local Red Cross. She was a former president of the Eaton County Federated Women's Club.

Mrs. Sexton wrote and staged pageants for church and college and as president of the Eaton County Federation of Women's Clubs, she led in placing the markers in the Sunfield area for the Clinton Trail. She was corresondent from Olivet for the "Lansing State Journal," "Battle Creek Enquirer" and "Detroit Free Press" for many years.
