Rev. Gary J. Berry, 54, of Adams was called home to be with Jesus, Wednesday, January 1st. Rev. Berry, pastor of the Woodville Congregational Church, passed away from a heart attack he suffered while at work on Wednesday. Gary was a devoted husband, father and grandfather and he is gone too soon.
He was born in Watertown on March 18, 1959, a son to Harry K. and Nora E. Smith Berry. After graduating from South Jefferson High School in 1977, he went to work for his father at the family business. In 1982, Gary and his brother, Lee, took over ownership of the business and formed Berry Bros. Lumber Co.
Gary was called to ministry at the Woodville Congregational Church in 2005 and was currently serving as the church's pastor. He was a member of the North Country Minister's Fellowship and an advocate and volunteer for Family Life Ministries. He was serving as the Chaplain for the Smithville Volunteer Fire Department. Gary was an off road enthusiast, volunteering as a trail guide for the Jeep Jamboree and was a member of the Twisted Axle Off Road Club based in Syracuse. He especially loved his Jeep trail rides in Maine.
Gary is survived by his wife, Tamera (Tammy) Foltz Berry, Adams; his children Tiffany (Kris) Klusacek, Enterprise, AL; Jeremy (Melanie) Berry, Mannsville; Hilary (Jeffery) Remington, Adams. Five grandchildren Sabrina, Kaleb and Kenzley Klusacek, Iliza Remington and Addison Berry. His brother Lee (Sue), Adams; three sisters Ruth (Fred) Amos, Adams; Marie (Bernard) Windover, Ellisburg; Rose Ann (Benny) Hyde, Adams. His brother in-laws Mike (Shirley) Hill, Henderson; Craig (AnnElyse) Foltz, Adams; Chris Foltz, Lewisville, OH; Tim (Jodi) Hill, Henderson; Travis Hill, Adams. Several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents Harry and Nora and his brother Carl.
Calling hours for Rev. Berry are Sunday from 1pm – 5pm at the Airport Fellowship Church, Route 12F, Dexter. Members of the Smithville Volunteer Fire Department will conduct a prayer service on Sunday at 5:15pm following calling hours. The funeral will be at 11am Monday, January 6th at the Airport Fellowship Church with Rev. Tom Wilson officiating. Reception to follow. Spring burial will be in Fairview Cemetery, Rodman. Arrangements are with Carpenter-Stoodley Funeral Home, Belleville.
