John Robert Smoot, 78 of Bowling Green, Missouri (formerly of Hunnewell, Missouri), passed away December 11, 2013 at home surrounded by all his family. He was born January 22, 1935 in Shelby County, Missouri to John Wilkerson and Thelma Opal Allen Smoot. John was of the Methodist faith, as a young man was a member of the Hunnewell Methodist Church, Hunnewell, Missouri. He graduated from Hunnewell High School, Hunnewell, Missouri with the class of 1953. He served Country in the United States Army from 1957 - 1959. He was employed at McLaughlin Body in Moline, Illinois from 1964 - 1974. He later retired from JC Auto Parts in Monroe City. He Married Carolyn Sue Utterback on January, 22, 1961, she survives of the home. Also surviving one Daughter: Roberta Lindsey (Matt), Barry, Illinois. Three Grandchildren: Brandon Waack (Rachel), Pittsfield, Illinois; Heather Ragar (JD), Hannibal, Missouri; and Stephen Kirklink, Frankford, Missouri. Two Great Grandsons: Gage Ragar and Braxton Waack and a special "buddy" Preston Fuget. One Brother in Law: Pete Lehenbauer, Olive Branch, Mississippi. Also survived by several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his Parents, Step Father Willie Horn, Sisters Mae Crow, Ann Brumbaugh, Betty Meyers, Bonnie Lehenbauer and Grandson Gary Waack. Funeral Services will be held 2:00 pm Monday, December 16, 2013 at the Garner Funeral Home, Monroe City, Missouri, Rev. Steve Goughnour will officiate, burial will be from the I.O.O.F. Cemetery, Hunnewell, Missouri. Vistation will be from 5:00 till 7:00 pm Sunday evening at the Garner Funeral Home, Monroe City, Missouri. Active Pallbearers will be Travis Bird, Justin Smoot, Bobby Pfanner, Craig Thomas, Buddy Albright and Mark Saunders. Honorary Pallbearers will be J.D. Ragar, Brandon Waack, Heather Ragar, Matt Lindsey, Stephen Kirklink, Gage Ragar, Braxton Waack, C.L. Smoot, Roger Crow, Jim Grimes and Sam Bird. Memorials may be made to I.O.O.F.
