HIGGINS, ALEXANDRIA FRANSIOLI
Buried: 22 Oct 1955
Lot 23554 Section G

Born abt 1872 - 1875 in Switzerland ?

***************************************

Section G, Lots 23554 thru 23563.
The Charles Higgins Mausoleum, Altar to Liberty, and Minerva.
This complex atop the highest point in Brooklyn is the work of Charles Higgins, inventor of India ink. The only exterior text on the mausoleum is the name HIGGINS over the entrance.

It was from this hill, in 1776, that George Washington's surrounded army managed to escape to Brooklyn Heights and across the river into Manhattan, a retreat that probably saved the army, and arguably the infant nation as well. Minerva is saluting her sister in the harbor—the Statue of Liberty.
