Jean M. Thomsen, 92, of Fort Collins passed away Thursday, Sept. 12, 2002 in Fort Collins.

Jean McCrory was born Jan. 18, 1910 in Fesenden, N.D., to G.G. and Letitia Walker McCrory. She married Alf G. Thomsen on June 30, 1937, in McGrath, Minn. He preceded her in death on June 12, 1962.

She was a former resident of McGrath, N.D., Orofino, Idaho, and Baldwin Park, Calif. She had been a resident of Fort Collins since 1982. She attended college at the University of Minnesota at Duluth, the University of Idaho at Moscow and California State in Los Angeles, finishing with a graduate degree in education.

She was an elementary school teacher for 35 years, starting in a one-room rural schoolhouse in Minnesota. She retired from Baldwin Park Elementary School in Baldwin Park, Calif., in 1975.

She was a member of the Christian Church. She enjoyed reading trashy novels, knitting poorly, other people's gardening and watching Denver Broncos games at top volume. She loved her family, cats, birds, bingo and a good joke.

To her, there wasn't anything in life you couldn't laugh at. She was an educated, independent thinker and passed those traits onto her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Jean was a life-long learner and never stopped teaching others, even if she burned cookies in the process.

Jean is survived by three sons, George Thomsen and his wife, Sharon, of Yakima, Wash., John Thomsen and his wife, Linda, of Idaho City, Idaho, and Wesley Thomsen and his wife, Jane, of Lonsdale, Minn.; two daughters, Mary Jean Dickey and her husband, Leonard, of Fort Collins and Elizabeth Grayson and her husband, Robert, of Englewood; 11 grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; five brothers and sisters; one daughter, Jackie Stroinski; and five grandchildren. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Allnutt Funeral Service, Drake Chapel. Cremation will take place, and internment will be at Weseman Cemetery in Orofino, Idaho at a later date.

Memorial contributions can be made to the American Heart Association in care of Allnutt Funeral Service, 650 W. Drake Road, Fort Collins, CO 80526. Please visit www.allnutt.com to see online obituary and sign family guest book.
