Donald W. Dalby, 99, of Mt. Vernon, Illinois passed away at 10:00 P.M. on Wednesday, January 1, 2014 at his home in Mt. Vernon, Illinois.
Donald was born on Wednesday, July 15, 1914 in Sesser, Illinois the son of the late Alvin and Mazie C. (Leonard) Dalby. He married Ruth A. Foreman on November 22, 1938 in El Paso, Illinois and they celebrated 71 years of marriage. She preceded him in death on April 2, 2010.
Surviving family members include his 3 daughters: Judith Williams of Mt. Vernon, Illinois, Janet Byars and husband Ed of Texico, Illinois and Joyce Richardson and husband Ken of Mt. Vernon, Illinois; 6 grandchildren: Dee Allen, Gary Williams and wife Eileen, James Williams and wife Vonna, Mark Byars and wife Becky, Lori McGovern and husband Kevin and Ryan Richardson; 15 great grandchildren and 6 great great grandchildren.
His parents, wife, brother: Leonard Dalby, three sisters: Thelma Beal, Rose Marie Green and Madge Hawkins, and son-in-law: Norman G. Williams preceded him in death.
Donald worked for and retired from DeWitt Lumber Company. He and his wife were long time members of Hopewell United Methodist Church and he served as a trustee of Hopewell Cemetery for many years.
