Mr. Joshua Grant, Jr. was born to the late Mr. Joshua Grant, Sr. and Mrs. Mamie Robertson Grant on June 29, 1923 in Sheffield, Alabama. He departed this life on Monday, December 30, 2013.
Josh was a deeply devoted member of New Bethel AME Church, Sheffield, Alabama, graduate of Sterling High School and served with dignity and honor in the US Army and retired from the Tennessee Valley Authority.
Josh loved his family unconditionally. He was a dedicated husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle and an exceptional friend who showed a humble spirit to all. Josh was a gentleman with a unique and charismatic personality who offered a helping hand to anyone he encountered regardless of the circumstances.
Josh was preceded in death by his wife, Bessie C. Shelton Grant; son, Richard L. Grant; sister, Mattie Grant Howell; and brother-in-law Robert Howell.
Josh leaves to cherish his memories a loving granddaughter, Pamela (David) Stovall, Antioch, Tennessee, two grandsons, Dale (Angela) Durden, Lawrenceville, Georgia, and Cornelius R. Grant, Lawton, Oklahoma; four great grandchildren, Jessica & Starnesha Grant and Breyuana & Delnisha Durden; three great-great grandchildren, Javarius Grant, Jaila Batey, & Ja'siah Grant; a host of nephews, nieces, cousins, other relatives and friends.

Joshua Grant Jr., 90, died Monday, Dec. 30, 2013. Public viewing will be 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. today at Thompson and Son Funeral Home, Tuscumbia. The funeral will be noon Saturday at New Bethel African Methodist Episcopal Church, Sheffield, with burial in Oakwood Cemetery, Sheffield. The body will be placed in the church one hour before services.
