He joined the Seabee's (United States Navy Construction Battalion). Through a Navy friend, he was introduced to Vinita Dunn. They married 5 weeks after meeting and have 4 sons.
He worked in construction and loved God, gardening, and reading.
Roy died from lung cancer, only 11 days after diagnosis, at his home in Buena Park, at the age of 65. He is survived by his wife Vinita, sons: Richard (Cynthia), Timothy (Lori), Todd (Julie), David (Laraine), 15 grandchildren, and at the time, 1 great-grandchild. (He now has 24 great-grandchildren.)
His memorial service was held at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses in Buena Park, California.
