SNOW HILL -- Mrs. Lucy Mae Emory Grant, 84, passed away Saturday, July 1, 2006, at Pitt Memorial Hospital. A native of Duplin County, she was born Feb. 12, 1922, the daughter of the late William Andrew Emory and Cora Bell Tuten Emory. Mrs. Grant had retired with Hampton Industries in Kinston following 38 years of service and attended Bethel Free Will Baptist Church in Kinston. She will be remembered by her family and those who knew her best for her strong work ethic whether it was at work, home or in her garden; and most importantly for her faithfulness to the Lord. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday at the chapel of Taylor-Tyson Funeral Service, with the Rev. Archie Ratliff officiating. Interment will follow at the Snow Hill Cemetery. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband James P. "Jim" Grant, Sr.; a daughter, Deborah Grant McKeown; brothers Douglas Emory, Charlie Emory and William "Buddy" Emory; a sister, Mildred Oliver; and half sisters, Margaret Efid and Ruth Brown. Mrs. Grant is survived by her daughters, Patsy Grant and husband Brooks of Snow Hill, and Gloria Jean Thompson and husband Robby of Albermarle; sons, James P. "Jimmy" Grant Jr. and wife Selma of Grifton, Stephen Andrew "Little Bit" Grant and wife Paula of Snow Hill, and John Timothy "Timmy" Grant and wife Debby of Snow Hill; a sister, Edith Smith of Whiteville; a brother, Jesse Earl Emory of Tryon, Ga.; grandchildren Danny, Patricia, Stacy, Erin, Rebekah, Anthony, Misty, Bridgette, Michael, Stephanie, April, Brandi and Ashley; and 11 great-grandchildren. The family will receive friends on Monday from 6 - 8 p.m. at the funeral home and other times at the residence, 853 Jim Grant Road, Snow Hill.
