Patricia was the youngest child of nine surviving children born to Bernice Modlin and John Robert McCraw. Pat finished high school after marriage; went on to earn a Bachelor's Degree in Elementary Education and then a Master's Degree in History. She taught elementary school for 23 years in the Pasadena Independent School District. She was a member of First Baptist Church of Friendswood, Texas.
