Patricia Ann (Gayatri) Marx, 59, of Seattle, Wash., formerly of Sioux City, passed away Dec. 28, 2013, in Rohnert Park, Calif., following a 17-month battle with ovarian cancer.

Private family services will be held at a later date.

Patricia was born on July 5, 1954, in Sioux City. She graduated from Central High School in 1972. She graduated from the University of Iowa with a degree in diet and nutrition. After college, Patricia moved to Honesdale, Pa. to the Himalayan Institute of Yoga Science and Technology in 1981. She studied and lived there through 1988. She received her master's degree in eastern studies from the University of Scranton. She also lived in Minneapolis, Delaware, California and finally settling in Seattle.

Patricia was always interested in health, diet and nutrition and pursued her interests by studying yoga, meditation, Ayurvedic, and holistic medicine as well as following an organic, vegetarian diet for the past 40 years. She managed India Imports while in Honesdale. She was also a holistic health consultant and yoga teacher, studying Ayurvedic medicine and reflexology. She also worked in the home health care industry as a private health aide.

Survivors include her sisters, Maxine (Russell) Beyne of Tarpon Springs, Fla., Donna (Gene) Peska of Harrisburg, S.D., and Jacqueline (Steven) of Wauwatosa, Wis.; her brothers, Steven of San Diego, Calif., Daniel of Des Moines, Russell (Nancy) of Sioux Falls, S.D., and Curtis (Heather) of Red Wing, Minn.; 13 nieces and nephews; and aunts, uncles and cousins. As well as many who knew and loved her from across the globe.

She was preceded in death by her father, Don T. Marx; and her mother, Rita E. Marx.

Serving others was a constant of Patricia's life. As a believer of the Himalayan tradition and yoga lifestyle, she spent time in India. A passion for health and service to others, memorial in her name are welcome to benefit the Himalayan Institute Hospital Trust in Dehradum, Uttaranchal, India.
