Funeral services for S.E. Kennon, 76, who died in the Cameron Hospital at 4 p.m. Thursday, August 5, 1943, were held at 4 p.m. Friday at the Walkers Creek Baptist Church with interment in the Walkers Creek Cemetery. Mr. Kennon was a native of Alabama but had been a resident of this community for 56 years. He was a farmer and owned a farm in the Walkers Creek community where he resided at the time of his death. . . . Surviving are his widow and the following children: Ben Kennon, Cameron; Cage Kennon, Cameron; John Kennon, Houston; Alva Kennon, Walkers Creek; Mrs. Eva Ripper of Long Beach, Calif.; Mrs. Ada Mae Hollman of Quincy, Florida. One brother, R.W.H. Kennon of Cisco, veteran Texas newspaper man and former publisher of the Rockdale Reporter and The Cameron Herald. Mrs. Lula Perry of Union Springs, Alabama, a sister also survives. Mr. Kennon belonged to the age of strong men -- men who had convictions and the courage to live by them.
