Obituary - Our beautiful, beloved sister, aunt, great-aunt, great great-aunt, Allis Virginia Wall completed her life's work and suffering October 10, 2005 in Salt Lake City, Utah as a result of several strokes and a fall. She suffered much with patience, and always expressed her thanks and appreciation to her many caregivers.
She was born July 3, 1925 in Council Bluffs, Iowa. She was the fourth child of Henry Otis Wall and Edna E. Niemoller Wall. Her mother was a relative of the late Rev. Martin Niemoller who was imprisoned by the Nazi's during World War II. Her father was a descendant of Presbyterian missionaries to the Pawnees, Rev. Samuel Allis and Emiline Palmer Allis. Their children are documented by the state of NE as being the first white children born there. Her paternal grandfather, Dr. Wm. R. Wall was a skin cancer doctor as well as a family doctor in Council Bluffs, Iowa after his release as a major in the Indiana Cavalry in the Civil War.
Allis graduated from Thomas Jefferson High School in Council Bluffs. She was active in the Girl Scouts of America. She served in the Women Marines for three and one-half years as a teacher and a recruiter. She was very proud to serve her country and felt it to be a tribute to so many of her ancestors who gave their time and their lives to maintain our freedoms. She was faithful in displaying our country's flag on every occasion. Allis attended modeling school and completed many evening college courses to further her education. She retired from the Southern Bell Telephone Co. in Anaheim. She received many accolades for her meticulous records as a supervisor.
We are eternally indebted for her loving care of our mother in her last years. If there was a homeless cat that she heard about in her neighborhood, Allis either adopted it or found it a home. Allis and her family weathered the depression of the 30's in the beautiful Ozarks near the college of the Ozarks (near Branson) and she loved to recall the many explorations we made into those wild and unexplored forests where Indian mounds and early pioneer wagon tracks were the only indications of man.
Allis was a resident of Utah for the past two years. Allis was a sincere and honest lady and enjoyed her Bible studies.
She is survived by one sister, Lorraine (Lenn, deceased) Whitesides; niece, Patricia (Lynn) Nelson; nephew, Lenn E. Whitesides; a grandnephew, Sean (Tiffany) Nelson; a great-grandniece, Allexis Allis Nelson; and many cousins in the Midwest. Simper Fi! Allis, we will miss you always and we are appreciative of your kindness to us all.
Interment was October 15, 2005 at Kaysville City Cemetery, with the Marines officiating at graveside services.
