Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Monday at Crestwood Chapel for Aubie Dan Kilgore, 90, Lincoln, formerly of Gadsden, who died Friday, Jan. 8, 2010. The Rev. Wade Acton will officiate. Burial will be in Crestwood Cemetery. Crestwood Funeral Home is in charge.
Aubie "Shorty" was a veteran of World War II; he was a member of the Cumberland Presbyterian Church for more than 60 years, where he had served as a choir director and Sunday School superintendent for several years. He retired from Culp Iron and Metal, and also worked in the auto parts sales business for several years. He was preceded in death by his son, Eddie Mack Kilgore; three brothers; and three sisters.
He is survived by his wife of 69 years, Mary Louise Kilgore; granddaughter, Debra Kilgore Goode, Pinson; grandsons, Eddie Kent (Deborah) Kilgore, Hayden and Shawn Kelly (Kathryn) Kilgore, Leesburg; stepgrandson, Jeffrey (Rachel) Powell; nine great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. He also is survived by his former daughter-in-law and caregiver, Pauline (Rex) Tanner, Lincoln, also former daughter-in-law, Patrica Ann Caggle, Sand Rock.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the American Heart Association in memory of his deceased son, Eddie Mack Kilgore.
Pallbearers will be Wayne Kilgore, Daryl Goode, Rex Tanner, Tim Lavender, Burt Lavender and Terry Kilgore.
Honorary pallbearers will be the members of "Go-Go
Grandparents" (a band he played in for several years, playing the harmonica, entertaining seniors in the Gadsden area).
The family will receive friends from noon until 2 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.
