Jane Lucille Royer, 87, of French Lick, passed away Monday at Indiana University Health Bedford, surrounded by many members of her devoted family in her final eight hours.

Jane was born Aug. 16, 1926, in Orange County, to James and Hazel (Stalcup) Leonard. She married Elmer "Doke" Royer on Aug. 18, 1946, and he preceded her in death on Aug. 22, 2008.

Jane was a 1944 graduate of French Lick High School.

She worked for Bell Telephone, Kimball Piano and worked in reservations at the French Lick Springs Hotel. Her 40 plus years in the work force ended after serving eight years as the Orange County Treasurer and she was the first woman elected to the Orange County Council.

She was a member of Eastern Star and Republican Women's Club. She also was a member of the Beechwood Christian Church in French Lick where she served faithfully in many different capacities.

She is survived by her son, Richard "Dick" (Lawanda) Royer of Houston, Texas; daughters, Susan (Mick) Farris of West Baden and Nancy (Doug) Conrad of Springville; brother, James Leonard of Indianapolis; and sisters, Dorothy Clements of French Lick and Mary Ann Bledsoe of Bloomington. Her favorite grandchildren were Darin Farris, Krista Harrell, Kirbie Ann Moore, Logan Conrad, Christopher Royer and McKenna Conrad. Her favorite great-grandchildren were Kirsten Harrell, Kyra Harrell, Kenzie Harrell, Brant Farris, Brenna Farris, and Asa Conrad. She is also survived by many favorite nieces and nephews who loved and admired her also.

Jane's favorite and very best role in life was as a devoted Mother. She was equally as good in the role of wife, Mamaw, Granny, sister, daughter, and friend. She was famous for her iced sugar cookies, cream puffs, and Sunday dinners. Her sense of humor, encouraging words and beautiful smile will be forever remembered by anyone who was blessed to know her.

Services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at the Beechwood Christian Church in French Lick, with the Rev. Joan Daniels officiating. Burial will be at Mount Lebanon Cemetery in French Lick.

Friends may call from 4-8 p.m. on Thursday at T.L. Pinnick Mortuary and from 10 a.m. until the service Friday at the church.

Memorial contributions can be made to Beechwood Christian Church, Avoca Baptist Church, Johnson's Christian Village, or any children's program of the donor's choice.
