David Braswell, 67 of Georgetown, passed away on Monday, December 30, 2013. David's family will gather for a time of visitation and sharing on Thursday, January 2, 2014 from 6:00PM to 8:00PM at The Gabriels Funeral Chapel, 393 North IH 35, Georgetown. A service celebrating David's life and his faith will be at 2:00PM on Friday, January 3, 2014 at The Gabirels Funeral Chapel with Pastor Scooter McCurdy officiating. Interment will follow at IOOF Cemetery. Honoring David the pallbearers will be: Leonard Heathington, Mike Lower, Norman Marek, George Schoepf, Logan Pope, and Ron Carlson.
David was born September 9, 1946 in Selma, Alabama to the late James Edward and Marion Louise Gunter Braswell. Growing up David spent his childhood years in both Alabama and California. David graduated from Chula Vista High School in 1964. Throughout his childhood David loved playing baseball, and had advanced his game enough to be drafted by the White Sox out of high school. His career as a baseball player was ended abruptly by a severe ankle injury. David then joined The United States Air Force, serving his country honorably for two tours in Vietnam as part of a specialty Pararescue Team. During his time in the military David attended college at The University of Alabama, and upon his honorable discharge went on to attend The University of Texas, graduating in 1972 with his Bachelor of Science in Pharmaceuticals. Rather than pursuing a career in pharmaceuticals, David entered the car business where he met many of the friends he has today, and was hooked for life. David worked for the past several years as the Business Manager for Crestview RV. He was a very talented musician although he could not read music and played only by ear. He played in a gospel band for several years called "The Parking Lot Pickers". Along with music David enjoyed playing golf, collecting guns and coins, and enjoyed an occasional good cigar. David married his love, Sandra Diane Pope, on December 13, 2008 in front of family and friends in Georgetown. Spending time with family and sharing his military past with grandkids was a passion that David lived by. He was very proud of his military service and his accomplishments.
David was preceded in death by his parents, James and Marion Braswell. Leaving behind to cherish his memory are his loving wife, Sandy Braswell of Georgetown; his children, Mary Beth Berglund and husband Mike of Austin, Camey Braswell of Lampasas; his stepchildren, Britney Ullevig and husband Mike of Lampasas, Greg Shelton and wife Jessie of Georgetown, Kyle Click and wife Amanda of Temple and Geoffrey Shelton and wife Tracy of Georgetown; his brother, Ron Braswell and wife Michelle; his sister, Elizabeth Jeanie Mason; his adoring grandchildren, Weston Berglund, Katy Grace Berglund, Abigail Capri Calderon, Dylan Ullevig, Grace Ullevig, Landon Shelton, Dylan Shelton, Mackenzie Shelton, Reece Shelton, Hunter Reichert, Atyana Click, Maddox Click, Kaleb Shelton, Kamryn Shelton and one more on the way; along with numerous other loving family members and friends.
In lieu of flowers the family request that memorial donations be made in David's name to Wounded Warrior Project.
