Enos (Ennis) Hughes enlisted in August 1862 and served in Company C, 30th Regiment, Texas Volunteers. On August 31, 1863, the company roll reported him absent, "Sick in McLennan County since June 22d." His company disbanded near Navasota, Texas, in the latter part of June 1865. During the war, his wife stayed at his father's house.

Mr. Hughes died at Shelbyville, at the home of his son, Bob Hughes. His obituary says he was buried in Campti Cemetery. Survivors included his wife and several children. He was a half-brother to A. B. Hughes of Henrietta community.

Mrs. Hughes was very ill at the time of her husband's death, and she died a few weeks after her husband.
