In 2020, I embarked upon a project to obtain headstones for those soldiers buried in Fairmount Cemetery without a marker. A stone now proudly stands for William H. H. Benefiel.

This stone was installed on 30 July 2021.

William H. Benefiel, a well known resident and civil war veteran, died at the King's Daughters' Hospital at 8:30 o'clock last night after an illness of only three days with pneumonia.

The deceased was 77 years of age and was born in the State. He was a private in Co. H, 125th Cavalry during the civil war and had many friends. A widow and several children living in North Madison survive.

Funeral services will be held in Haigh's funeral parlors Monday at 1 o'clock p.m. and the interment will be in Fairmount cemetery. Both the funeral and burial will be private.s/o George Washington Benefiel and Sarah Ann Sailors
