George Robert Brown Sr. beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, uncle and friend passed away on December 28, 2013 in Providence Memorial Hospital surrounded by his family. George was born May 18, 1938 in El Paso, Texas to Clarence and Regina Carson Brown. George was predeceased by his parents and brother, Clarence Brown Jr. and his sisters, Rickie Evans and Susan Maxson.
George is survived by his wife of 53 years, Marleen Kennedy Brown and his sons, Bobby Brown, James Brown and David Brown and a daughter, Jennifer Horsley and her husband, Dave Horsley. George is also survived by nine grandchildren and three great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
George was an employee of Southwestern Bell Telephone Co. where he was lovingly known by many as "Twiggy". George worked the line crew, cable maintenance and repair, installation and central office. When he retired in 1991, after 35 years service, he was a Central Office Manager.
George was a member of the 1956 graduating class of El Paso High School and attended Texas Western College.
George was a devout member of the Catholic Church and attended St. Matthew Catholic Parish.
The family would like to thank Dr. Janss and all of the nurses and caregivers in the Oncology Unit at Providence Memorial Hospital, Mariposa Hospice and most especially we thank his favorite nurse, Deseriee.
Visitation for George Robert will be held from 5:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. on Friday, January 3, 2014 at Sunset Funeral Home-West with a Vigil at 7:00 p.m. Funeral Mass will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Juanuary 4, 2013 at St. Matthew Catholic Church. Interment to follow at Restlawn Memorial Park Cemetery.
