FLOYD MITCHELL HAYES, 85, a devoted Christian, husband, father and brother, went to a better place on December 29, 2013. He has gone to be with the Lord after living a full, blessed life on this earth. He leaves behind his loving wife of 59 years, Carolyn, as well as four sons, Alan (Rebekah), Paul (Debby), Grant (Laura), and Daniel, his youngest and most faithful companion. He also leaves his brother, Hayward, his sisters, Geraldine Story Mathis and Arlene Riggs, in addition to eight grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. He served as an elder at the Forest Hill Church of Christ for 43 years, and the church was his first love. He served in the U.S. Navy for four years and had an unwavering love of country. Following his discharge from the Navy, he worked for Memphis, Light, Gas and Water in the natural gas department and retired after 25 years. He never retired from the business he bought in 1970, Tri-State Meter and Regulator Service, Inc., and was known throughout the gas industry as a hardworking, honest, humble man. He helped anyone in need, was hospitable to all, and was one of those rare, special men that will be sorely missed. We rejoice that he as reached his ultimate goal. Visitation will be 9:30 a.m. until service begins at 11 a.m. Friday, January 3 at Forest Hill Church of Christ. In lieu of flowers, the family requests any memorials be made to Memphis School of Preaching in Forest Hill Church of Christ.
