Aberdeen - Mass of Christian Burial for Philip A. "Phil" Schumacher will be 2 p.m. Friday, Nov. 12, 2004, at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Aberdeen. Father Gregory Tschakert officiate. Burial will follow at St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery. Schriver's Memorial Mortuary & Crematory, Aberdeen is in charge of arrangements. A Liturgical Wake Service was held Thursday, Nov. 11, 2004, at the mortuary. Visitation will be 8 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Friday at the mortuary.

Philip A. Schumacher was born June 13, 1913, to Anton and Christina (Klein) Schumacher at Karlsruhe, N.D. In 1920, he moved with his family to a farm near Richmond Lake where he was raised and attended country schools. After his father passed away, the family moved to Aberdeen. Philip joined the CCC Camp and worked in the Black Hills area for about seven months and returned to Aberdeen. In 1936, Philip started working for Johnson Motors of Aberdeen. Philip married Eva Ganje June 5, 1937, at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Aberdeen. During WWII, Philip worked in a Defense Plant in Milwaukee, Wis., for one year. He continued working for Johnson Motor Company for many years. Philip was the Shop Foreman at the time of his retirement in 1978. Philip continued working part time for a number of years after his retirement.
Philip was a member of the Aberdeen Moose Lodge, Catholic Order of Foresters and the St. Joseph's Society. Philip and Eva enjoyed dancing every Saturday night in their early years. Philip enjoyed working in his garden and enjoyed pheasant hunting.
Philip was preceded in death by his parents, one sister, one half sister and three brothers and one granddaughter.
