Benjamin Bailey Harper, 83 of Verner departed this life Saturday, December 28, 2013 from St. Mary's Medical Center.

Born November 12, 1930 at Coal Mountain, WV, he was the son of the late McKinley and Nancy (Hatfield) Harper.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his sisters: Sadie Chambers, Emaline Hatfield, Thelma Morgan, and Jeanie Mounts; an infant sister: Truby Harper; brothers: Amos Harper and an infant brother Willie Harper.

Ben was a retired coal miner and of the Pentecostal faith. He loved to garden and so often would give to others what he grew.

Those left to love and cherish the memory of Ben are his wife: Geneva Harper of Verner; daughters: Karen Collins and companion of Mallory, Tammy and Janie Harper; sons: Terry L. Harper and Jerry D. Harper (companion Cindi Browning) all of Verner, Benny (Patricia) Harper of Shady Springs, James Harper and Michael Harper (companion Laura Block) all of Accoville, Benjamin Harper, Jimmy Harper and Danny (Brenda) Harper of Gilman Bottom; sisters: Betty Addison of Floyd, VA, and Phoeba (Dale) Toler of Justice; brothers: Junior (Lou) Harper and Curtis (Patty) Harper all of Coal Mountain, Lonnie (Virgie) Harper of Brenton, Clarence (Ophelia) Harper of Simon; his precious granddaughter: Shannon (Jordan) Collins of Browning Fork; and a dear friend: Clayton Meade; and a host of other dear family and friends.

Friends may gather with the family Thursday, January 2, 2014 from 6 to 9 pm at the Mounts Funeral Home Chapel. Funeral services will be conducted Friday, January 3, 2014 at 1:00 pm at the Mounts Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Diamond Carter and Rev. Tommy White officiating. Burial will follow in the Hatfield Cemetery at Coal Mountain. Ben will be carried to his final resting place by family and friends. He may be gone from our sight, but never from our hearts.
