Miss Mary E Bruce received a telegram this morning announcing the death at Austin, Minn, yesterday, of her sister, Mrs Marcia Bruce Kirkland. Mrs Kirkland had been an invalid for many years, of late years hopelessly so. Frequently she had visited Miss Bruce here and had endeared herself to many, in fact, to all with whom she came in contact. To meet her was to admire her, to know her was to love. There was not a more gentle, refined, beautiful nature than hers. As a singer she possessed those soulful qualifications which win heats and which touch chords of sympathy in the beast of every listener. To her delightful songs Lafayette people owe many hours of pleasure, many memories of lasting enjoyment. Had Mrs Kirkland lived until the 20th of next January she would have been 50 years old. She was born in Jefferson county, New York, and resided for the greater portion of her live in Jamestown that state, where she was universally admired as a woman and as a musician. The many friends made during her visits to this city will be deeply pained to learn of her death and there is genuine sorrow in the hearts of all who knew her. Another sister resides in Jamestown. The remains will be shipped to this city at once for interment in Greenbush cemetery, the time of arrival no being known at this hour.
