Joshua Weatherly Scott
June 23, 1974 - Dec. 23, 2013

The Herald Bulletin

Joshua Weatherly Scott, 39, transitioned from this earthly plane to his Eternal Heavenly Home, on Dec. 23, 2013. He was born June 23, 1974, in New Brunswick, N.J. As an infant, he and his parents moved to Anderson, Ind., and two years later the family relocated to Denver, Colo.

Joshua was baptized as an infant in Wallace Temple A.M.E. Zion Church. Where his life journeys took him, he maintained his membership at Wallace. He served on the Senior Usher Board, Steward Board, and willingly gave of his cooking skills in the church kitchen. In response to the 2010 earthquake that devastated Haiti, Joshua answered the call and made two mission trips (2011-2012) to assist in rebuilding houses in the Calabass area.

His educational experiences began in Anderson at Hickory Dickory Dock Montessori School and lasted throughout his life, he never stopped learning. When his parents moved to Denver, Colo., he was enrolled at Graland Country Day School. For three years, he studied at The Brooks School in Andover, Mass., and was selected to participate in their Student Exchange Program with the Alliance School in Kikuyu, Kenya, and graduated from Regis Jesuit High School in Denver, Colo. He was nominated by U.S. Senator Hank Brown of Colorado, and was accepted as a Midshipman in the United States Naval Academy, Annapolis, Md.

After two and a half years at the Academy, Joshua transferred to Howard University, Washington, D.C., and received his Bachelor of Science in Organizational Leadership, Summa Cum Laude, from Anderson University.

At the time of his death, Joshua was a semester away from receiving his Juris Doctor Degree from McKinney School of Law, Indiana University. Amongst all of these educational experiences he found time to attend Bartending School and cooking classes.

He worked at ABC Clio Publishers as an Assistant Editor and for many years he was a partner in "Brothers Bar-B-Que" restaurants in Denver, Colo. While there, Brothers received several "Best of Denver" awards. For a short period of time he was employed at the Scott Lowry Law Office. He left Denver in 2007 to become owner and CEO of TransAtlantic Collection Agency. He began IU's McKinney School of Law and shortly thereafter left TransAtlantic. Joshua worked part time in the Law Office of Sheedy and Associates, interned at the Neighborhood Christian Legal Clinic, and full time at Simon Properties. At the time of his passing, he was employed at the firm of Parr, Richey, Obremskey, Frandsen & Patterson.

During the 2008 presidential election, Joshua solicited family and friends to support and work with him in campaigning fervently for Barack Obama.

Joshua was a true sports fan and loved all sports. Golf was his favorite sport because it allowed him the opportunity to use golf skills taught to him and Elijah by their grandfather and their father. Joshua was an avid soccer player and a rigorous swimmer. While at the Naval Academy, he trained diligently for the annual Marine Marathons and ran two Marathons. Finishing gave him great satisfaction. He was a "die hard" Denver Broncos and Nuggets fan; in fact, Joshua and Elijah were last year's Super Bowl Champions of the "Mile High Crew" Fantasy Football League. In the autumn of 2013, Joshua and a law school classmate coached an Indianapolis youth soccer team.

Travel was one of his passions. He loved learning of diverse cultures and extracting concepts to better himself. Many times, he vacationed on his favorite island, St. Thomas, cruised the Caribbean and Mexico, and "backpacked" through the Rockies. Among other travel adventures, he toured England, France, Italy, and Greece.

Family members who mourn their great loss include his parents, Judge Gregory and Carolyn Weatherly Scott; a brother, Elijah Kellam (Debie) Scott; an adorable niece, Madison Genaviee Scott; his dog, Zoe; great-aunts, Laura Scott and Katrina Fluellen; aunts, Mary Jane (Frank) Newsom, Joan Bryant, Shirley Weatherly, Frances Weatherly and Candance Scott; uncles, Timothy Scott, Frank Newsom, and Charles A.
