Ernestine Beatrice Chapman was born on October 30, 1950 in Jersey City, New Jersey to the late Ernest and Beatrice Davis, Jr. Ernestine's ministry of helping others started at an early age. After graduating from West Side High School in 1969, She attended Caldwell College where she majored in business administration.

Ernestine joined St. James AME Church of Newark at an early age, becoming a member of the Sunday School and YPD. She was an active member of the Irvington little league for more than twenty years. Ernestine enjoyed bowling and served as secretary, as well as other positions in the league. Ernestine's love for children cannot go unmentioned, children were her life. She served as a Cub Scout as well as a Boy Scout leader of Troop 129. Ernestine was well known in the community as a woman of, "integrity, caring and passion, one who loved God and her family."

She would never cross a stranger's path, without a smile and a kind word for them. Ernestine loved her community, and will be greatly missed by the City of Irvington.

Ernestine leaves to cherish her memories and to mourn her passing: her husband, Kenneth Chapman, Sr.; two sons, James Joyner, Jr. (Amy) and Kenneth Chapman, Jr.; three grandchildren, James C. Joyner III, Patrick X. Joyner and Nica' D. Joyner; four sisters, Diane Johnson (Harold), Carolyn Davis and a special cousin, "loved like a sister" Charlene Best and the late Andrea Ernesta (Candy) Riddick; one brother, Ernest Davis, III; a brother-in-law, Gregory Riddick; three nieces, Rev. Natasha Rouse (Vincent), Felicia Patten (Anthony) and Keshia Mason; three great nephews, Vincent Rouse, Jr., Jeremiah Patten and Nasir Riddick; one great niece, Jakina Riddick; one dear aunt, Martha Brown and a great aunt, Marthann Evans.

PSALM 23
The Lord is My Shepherd; I shall not want. He maketh me to lie down in green pastures; He leadeth me beside the still waters. He restoreth my soul. He leadeth me in the path of righteousness for His name's sake. Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil; for Thou art with me; Thy rod and Thy staff they comfort me. Thou prepares a table before me in the presence of mine enemies. Thou anointest my head with oil; my cup runneth over. Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life; and I will dwell in the house of the Lord forever.

ACKNOWLEDGEMENT
Perhaps you sent a lovely card or sat quietly in a chair.
Perhaps you sent a floral piece. If so, we saw it there.
Perhaps you spoke the kindest words as any friend could say.
Perhaps you were not there at all just thought of us on that day.
Whatever you did to console our hearts,
We Thank You, Whatever the part.
