Funeral services for Mrs. Boyd G. (Wilma Doris) Novinger, 63, of Bedford, held October 8 in Shum-Novinger Funeral Home here, were conducted by Rev. Carl Cummings. Mrs. Novinger died October 4, 1983 in her home in Bedford. Interment was at Fairview Cemetery, Bedford.
Wilma Doris Shum, daughter of Floyd Elbert Shum and Amy Walker Shum, was born in rural Taylor County near Sharpsburg, Iowa, September 18, 1920. When she was a young girl she moved with her parents to Clarinda, and later to New Market, prior to coming to Bedford, Iowa in 1933 where she graduated from Bedford High School in 1937 and attended the Methodist Church.
On March 17, 1944 she was united in marriage to Boyd George Novinger at Hiawatha, Ks., and they resided in San Diego, Calif., where Boyd was serving in the United States Navy and Wilma was employed at a Defense Plant during World War II.
They returned to Bedford in 1947 following the war service years where they have continued to reside and have been associated with the Shum-Novinger Funeral Home, which has served this community for over fifty years.
One daughter, Christy Lu, was born to bless their home and to share their love.
Wilma served as deputy clerk of Taylor County District Court, prior to being elected Clerk of Taylor County District Court, an office she served faithfully and well for eight years.
She was a member of the Bedford United Methodist Church and a Past Matron of Bedford Chapter #228 Order of Eastern Star.
Her father, Floyd Elbert Shum, preceded her in death March 15, 1970.
Left to cherish her memory are her husband, Boyd George Novinger of the home; a daughter, Christy Lu Novinger, of Burlington, Mass.; her mother, Amy Shum, of Bedford, Iowa; a brother-in-law, Gordon Novinger and a sister-in-law, Shirley Mitchiner, both of San Bernardino, Calif.; other relatives and many friends.
Wilma will long be remembered as a kind and considerate person, a faithful and loving daughter, wife and mother, and she will be sadly missed by all those who knew and loved her.
