Obituary - Stanford Phillips Layton, 82, passed away peacefully in his sleep August 10, 1992.

Born June 21, 1910 in Layton, Utah, son of H. John and Winifred Derby Layton. He married Viola M. Marston Nov. 21, 1934 in the Salt Lake LDS Temple.

He was a welder and member of the Plumber and Steamfitters Union Local #348. He was born and reared in Layton. At age 28, he moved his family to Washington State where he helped build the Grand Coulee Dam, helped build ships during World War II at the Tacoma Shipyard, and taught welding at the Buckley Welding School. After five years, he returned to Utah to work at Geneva Steel. In addition to welding, he raised Mink and farmed, which was his life long love.

He was an Elder in the Layton 2nd Ward. He served in various callings, including, Young Men's presidency, home teacher and ward greeter. He attended Davis High School, LDS Business College and trade school.

Surviving are his wife of 57 years, Viola M. Layton, of Layton; three sons and seven daughters, Stanford J. and Michelina Layton, Salt Lake City; Adrian P. and Roxanne Layton, of Layton; Lyndon C. and Marie Layton, of Layton; Laurel and Charles Barlow, Christine and William Painter, Rebecca and Stephen Van Dyke, all of Kaysville; Angela Oberg, Layton; Jennifer and Joseph Gilmore, Kaysville; Shellie and Feldon Young, Farmington; Sherrie and Alfred Hawley, Syracuse; 56 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; a brother, Rex L. Layton, of Layton.

He was preceded in death by his oldest daughter, Claudia Young; and also his twin brother, Sherman; two sisters, Frances and Mildred.

Funeral services Thursday, August 13, 11 a.m. at the Layton 2nd Ward Chapel, 2120 West Gentile, Layton. Officiating, Bishop Daren H. Allred. Friends may call Wednesday, 6-8 p.m. at the Lindquist's Layton Mortuary, 1074 North Fairfild Rd., Layton, and at the church Thursday morning, 9:45-10:45 a.m.

Interment, Kaysville City Cemetery.
