"Alex was a drummer during the Civil War. His drum was so big that he could not get it through the passenger car door of the train that he rode home. He and the drum rode on the porch all the way home. I would think he came into Cherryville , since that was the nearest railhead to White Plains where he resided. This drum is in the Cleveland Historical Museum." - Margaret Ledford
