Dr. James Boyce Carlin, 81, of Volusia, Fl, passed away Friday, December 20, 2013 at 4:30 pm at Florida Regional Hospital in Sanford, Fl.

He was the youngest child of the late Dr. L.W. Carlin and Flora Lee Newton Carlin. He was born of his earthly parents in Paducah, Ky on June 19, 1932. He was born of his heavenly Father on Friday evening, May 3, 1945, during a revival at Bellview Baptist Church, Paducah, KY.

He was married to Hellon L. Upchurch in Macon, MS on June 28, 1968. He is survived by his wife and their daughter, Rhonda Hope Carlin Lach, of Oviedo, FL, two grandsons and one granddaughter: David Grant Lach, Bryce Chandler Lach and Emmie Carlin Lach and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his father and mother and two sisters, Martha Pauline Carlin, Mary Ruth Carlin Courtney; two brothers, Loyce Paul Carlin and Dr. Charles B. Carlin. At the time of his death, he was a member of Volusia County Baptist Church in Orange City, FL. Dr. Carlin was a deacon and served his Lord in various capacities as Sunday School teacher, music director and church clerk.

Upon graduating from Murray State University, he began his professional career as an educator. His career as an educator and university professor spanned a period of forty two years. His teaching career began as a teacher at Hendron Elementary School in McCracken County, KY. He served five universities as a professor and numerous other universities as a guest professor. His longest tenure was with Murray State University, Murray, KY where he served for twenty two years. In 1988, his students honored him by establishing the James B. Carlin Education Scholarship.

He authored several books and publications. Even in his retirement, he authored such books and publications as: "Identifying The Lord's King Of Churches-A Biblical History" (1st and 2nd editions); "Bible Revelations Of Jesus The Christ-The Real Jesus"; "Will Your Child Know"; "There Was Never A Book Like The Bible", "Eternally Important Questions For You To Consider On Your Road To Eternity". His most recent book was "The Holy Godhead-That Triune Name-The Holy Trinity".

A gathering of celebration was held on Friday, December 27, 2013 from 1:00-3:00 pm at the Volusia County Baptist Church, 261 S. Orange Ave., Orange City, FL 32763.

A graveside funeral service is scheduled for Monday, December 30, 2013 at 12:15 pm at Maplelawn Park Cemetery in Paducah, KY. Visitation will be held on Monday, December 30, 2013 from 10:00 am until noon at Milner & Orr Funeral Home of Paducah.
