LAYTON--Austin H. Thomas, 75, of Layton passed away October 13, 1995, in St. George after a lingering illness.

He was born in Center Creek, Utah, December 28, 1919, a son of Blanche and "Hal" Harold Thomas of Heber City. He graduated from Wasatch High School in 1939. In 1940 he married his high school sweetheart, Helen Bailey. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Salt Lake LDS Temple.

He worked at Storm McDonalds Garage, New Park Mining Company and Geneva Steel in Provo. In 1952 Austin relocated his family from Heber City to Layton, where he was employed by Hill Air Force Base until his retirement in 1973. He was supervisor in the Plant Management Division and active in the Association of Supervisors during his federal career.

Enjoying his retirement, he traveled and lived in Boulder, Nevada, and Ivins, Utah. He served as president of Layton Lions. He enjoyed working with the youth of Layton and helped organize Layton Teen Club. He was a member of Layton 1st LDS Ward for 45 years and was ordained a high priest in 1993.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Harold and Neff Thomas; his daughter, Kathleen; and grandson, Larry Thomas.

He is survived by his wife, Helen; and sons, Ronald and Edie Thomas of Ivins; Bill and Tennice Thomas of Layton; daughters, Shirley and Ron Walton of Aurora, Colo.; and Linda and Bill West of Layton. Also survived by his brother, Joe Thomas of Provo and sister, Blanche Wright of Midway. Survived also by 21 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.

He will be deeply missed for his many talents that he shared and taught to others. Austin build two homes for his family and was always there as a guided instructor for his children and grandchildren. He loved working with automobiles and was always willing to lend a helping hand. Even when he was sick, he was willing to play checkers with his grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m., Wednesday, October 18, 1995, at Lindquist's Layton Mortuary, 1074 North Fairfield Road. Friends may call at the mortuary on Tuesday from 6-8 p.m. and one hour before services. Interment in Kaysville City Cemetery.
