Son of John Henry Brailsford and Ethel Lenora Adamson

Husband of Marian Adams Whitesides, 15 February 1946, Layton, Davis, Utah

KAYSVILLE--Kenneth Penney Brailsford, 79, passed away Wednesday, July 23, 1997 at his home, surrounded by his loved ones.

He was born in Fort Madison, Iowa, June 3, 1918, to John Henry and Ethel Adamson Brailsford. He moved with his family to Thermopolis, Wyoming, in 1926, where he attended schools, graduating from Hot Springs in 1936. He worked for J. C. Penney Company in Buffalo and Greybull, Wyoming, and enlisted in the U.S. Army in 1941, where he served four years in North Africa, Italy, France and Germany. He came to Layton in 1945, to help his brother run a store, and met and married Marian Whitesides, February 15, 1946. The marriage was solemnized in the Salt Lake LDS Temple in 1948. Kenneth served as an LDS stake missionary, bishop of the Layton 7th ward for nine years, and also served in many other church callings.

He was co-owner of Brailsford-Biggs Department Store, until 1968, when he bought out Mr. Biggs. It was then known as Brailsford's B & B Department Store, until 1981, when he closed out his business and retired. He helped organize the Layton JayCees. He was a charter member of Oakridge Country Club, and an avid golfer with five hole-in-ones within a year to his credit. In 1996, he sold his Layton home and moved to Jamestown Square in Kaysville.

He is survived by his dedicated, loving wife of 52 years, Marian W. Brailsford; three daughters, Kristine (Tom) Allen, Nashville, TN; Kay Card, and Mary (Kent) Streuling, both of Layton. Also survived by 13 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren, who loved and respected him. He was preceded in death by his son, John.

He will be remembered for his integrity, optimism and fairness, and most especially for his courage in long suffering.
