Frank Marcelle Dempsey was born December 29, 1923, on a farm south of Montrose, Kansas, the youngest of eight children. "Marr" was a respectful son to Frank and Ethyl, and a caring brother to his siblings: John, Verne, Forrest, Lyle, Madeline, Maxine, and Ivalee. He was a faithful and loving husband to Martha, his wife of 47 years, and a committed, caring father to his children: John Victor, Martha Jane, and John Richard. Eight grandchildren: Rene, Kathy, Jon, Patrick, Brian, Shannon, Cary and Justin. Great grandchildren: Jenna; Heather; John, Shawna, Cora Lee, Brent, Samantha, Robert. Jason, Carlee, Hannah, Cameron, Drake, Patrick, Elizabeth and Matthew.

Marr was a genuine member of the "Greatest Generation." He had few pretenses and spoke not of his accomplishments In life but of the family and the land that he loved.

There were things that Marr was proud of and was willing to reminisce about in his later years. He felt privileged to have been a part of the Montrose High basketball team. Teammates Charlie Jacobson, Jerry Murray, Don Bangs, Ralph Dunstan and others became his lifelong friends. He was proud of his service to his country during WW 11 when he served as a submariner in the North Atlantic. In Oct of last year he told an interviewer that "The most important accomplishment in my life was winning WW II."

And, most of all, he was proud of having been an independent farmer/rancher. He organized a successful operation that supported his family and allowed him to be a caretaker of the land lie so loved.

His children will always remember times spent fishing, attending Montrose Methodist Church, driving the Model A through muddy roads, and noon meals served in summer wheat fields. Last August Marr attended the wedding of one of Ills grand children. Although his health was failing, he spent the entire day outside with his children, grandchildren, and greatgrand children. Outdoors, with his family he was at home.
