Christine Gesine "Sine" Clemmensen Petersen (aka Pedersen)

Mrs.Sine Pederson passed away Sunday evening, January 9. 1955, at Salem Invalids Home in Elk Horn. Death is due to complications due to advanced age. She was 87 years old.

She was born May 17, 1867 in Jutland, Denmark, the daughter of Jens and Magdaline (Mette) Clemmensen. She was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith in her native land.

At the age of 16 years she came to this country together with her younger brothers and a sister to join her father who had previously immigrated to America and located in the Elk Horn community. Her mother had passed away.

On Jan. 12, 1889, she married Jacob Petersen. They lived near Persia for a number of years and then moved to a farm two and a half miles southeast of Elk Horn where they farmed until retiring and moving to Elk Horn in 1916. They spent their remaining years here. Mr. Pedersen died July 16, 1929.
Mrs. Pedersen moved to the Elk Horn home about six years ago. She has been a member of the Elk Horn Lutheran church ever since coming to the country and community.
Surviving are three daughters: Mrs. Amanda Andersen of Atlantic, Mrs. Hans C. Anderson of near Kimballton and Mrs. Harvey Nissen of Elk Horn and four sons: Alfred and Oswald of Washington state, Ezra of Elk Horn and Leo of Perry. Three sons: Andrew, Elmer and Theodore preceded their mother in death.

Also surviving are 17 grandchildren and 22 great grandchildren; two sisters, Mrs. Anna Jorgensen of Elk Horn and Mrs. Emma Jorgensen of Audubon and two brothers, Fred and Emil Clemensen of Audubon.
Funeral services were held at the Harvey Nissen home and Elk Horn Lutheran church on Wednesday afternoon with the Revs. C. E. Jensen and Anders Hansen conducting the service.
Interment was in Elk Horn Lutheran Cemetery. Bearers were: Reed Andersen, La Rue Andersen, Darwin Petersen, Earl Weddum, Kenneth Bramer and Gary Petersen.

Note from Judy Holweger: the name Petersen and Pedersen are used interchangeably in this obit and the name of Clemmensen is used with one m. These are probably the typist's error and this was common in the older obits. Also noted that Mrs. Anna Jorgensen and Mrs. Emma Jorgensen and two brothers, Fred and Emil Clemensen are her half siblings and she was predeceased by her siblings, Marie Sophie (Hans Peter Hansen), Johannes Christian (John Kyar) and Jens Christian Clemmensen. At one time there was a thought that Jens changed his name to Kyar but his death certificate shows he did not. He died as Jens Clemensen (one m).
