Verna G. Hammond

Verna G. Hammond, 83, of Kirksville, passed away Wednesday (December 14, 1988) in Grim-Smith Hospital.

Born March 23, 1905 in Green City, she was the daughter of Reuben H. and Dora Mae Cheyney Bailey. On October 5, 1930 at Waukegan, Illinois, she was married to George L. Hammond who preceded her in death. Also preceding her in death were her parents and two sisters, Florence Brooking and Stella Blackmon.

Surviving are one daughter, Florence Day of Winchester, Virginia; one grandson, Richard; one granddaughter, Dawn and two sisters, Mrs. Jesse (Ethyl) Blackmon of Kirksville and Jane Wilson of Green City.

As a young girl, Mrs. Hammond moved to Kirksville. She lived in the Chicago, Illinois area for several years, before returning to Kirksville 14 years ago.

She was a member of the Mason City, Iowa United Methodist Church.

Funeral services will be held at eleven o'clock Saturday morning (December 17, 1988) in the chapel of the Fohn Funeral Home. The Rev. Robert Douglas, pastor of the First Baptist Church, will conduct the services. Music will be provided by Dianthe Cable, organist, and Cheyrl Newland, soloist. Selections will be, "Beyond The Sunset" and "In The Garden." Burial will be in Highland Park cemetery.

Casket bearers will be: Bill Baiotto, John Winslow, Duane Cole, Dean Coy, Pete Nicoletti and John Sanford.

After three o'clock Friday (December 16, 1988), friends may call at Fohn Funeral Home.

The family will receive friends from seven until nine o'clock Friday evening in the funeral chapel.
