Verna A. Schmidt, 91, of Medford, entered eternal life on Friday, December 27, 2013 at the Memorial Nursing and Rehab Center in Medford. Her funeral service will be held on Tuesday, December 31, 2013 at St. Paul's Evangelical Lutheran Church in Green Grove (3 miles south of Curtiss on Hwy E) at 11 AM. The Rev. Dr. Paul C. Hunsicker Sr. will officiate. Visitation will be at the Maurina-Schilling Funeral Home in Abbotsford from 4:00 to 7:00 PM on Monday, December 30, 2013 and at the church on Tuesday from 9:00 AM until the time of service. Burial will take place in the Dorchester Memorial Cemetery following the service.

Verna was born March 14, 1922 in the Town of Greenwood, Taylor County to William and Frieda (Klein) Neuenfeldt. She attended Rib River Grade School in the Town of Greenwood. Verna moved to Chicago in 1938 and was employed as a caretaker for the elderly. She was united in marriage to Earl Merwin Schmidt on April 23, 1941 at Saint Paul's Lutheran Church in Green Grove. After their marriage they farmed in the Town of Little Black for 30 years moving to the Village of Stetsonville in 1969.

Verna was a member of Saint Paul's Lutheran Church in Green Grove and was active in the choir, LWML and the Alter Guild. She was a former Sunday school teacher and secretary for the church. She was also a member of the Medford VFW Auxiliary and the Stetsonville American Legion Auxiliary.

Verna enjoyed sewing, gardening, music and reading the bible.

She is lovingly survived by 3 daughters; Shirley (Wayne) Hoover of Stetsonville, Beverly (George Harlan) Adams of Medford and Audrey (Donald) Zenner of Medford, 4 grandchildren; Eric Schmidt, Lori Reinhart, Heidi Clark and Brock Zenner, 12 great-grandchildren, sister; Violet Wagner of Owen, 2 brothers; Larry Neuenfeldt of Dorchester and Leroy Neuenfeldt of Abbotsford.

Verna is preceded in death by her parents, husband; Earl Schmidt in 1974, son; Gary John Schmidt in 1972, granddaughter; Julie Becker, 3 brothers; Raymond Neuenfeldt, Lester Neuenfeldt and Howard Neuenfeldt and 2 sisters; Elvera Molzner and Dorothy Stephens.
