He was born Jan. 29, 1898, in Gurnee Junction, Ala., a son of William Monroe and Minnie Dora Champion Benton.
He married Velma Mae Jones June 2, 1919, in Park City, Utah. Marriage was later solemnized in the Salt Lake Temple.
He had worked for the Union Pacific Railroad as a station agent for 46 years, retiring in 1963.
He was reared and educated in Alabama. He had lived in Idaho; Trenton, Utah, and had lived in Kaysville the past 41 years.
He attended the Tyler Business College in Tyler, Texas.
He was a member of the Kaysville 1st LDS Ward where he was a member of the High Priests Quorum. He had been a scout master.
He had been Davis County District Chairman for the Advancement of the Boy Scouts of America. He was a member of the Kaysville Rotary Club.
Surviving are his widow of Kaysville, five sons and one daughter, David E. Benton and Lloyd J. Benton, both of Idaho Falls, Idaho; Paul E. Benton, Salt Lake City; Dr. Daniel W. Benton, Sunset; Dr. John Eldon Benton, Tempe, Ariz.; Mrs. Philip L. (Juanita) Bryson, Bountiful; 25 grandchildren and 26 great-grandchildren.
Also surviving are two brothers, James Odom Benton, Tuscaloosa, Ala.; and Floyd E. Benton, Roseville, Calif.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday at 1 p.m. in the Lindquist Kaysville Mortuary, 400 N Main, with Bishop Larry Streadbeck officiating.
Friends may call at the mortuary Monday from 6 to 8 p.m. and Tuesday one hour prior to services.
Interment in the Kaysville City Cemetery.
