Cathleen "Kitty" Gettys Powell, 84, of Morganton, was a daughter of the late John O. Gettys and Nettie Holton Gettys. She was preceded in death by her former husband, John Kirk Powell, Sr.; a daughter, Jeannette Powell Cristello; a sister, Joan Gettys Tolbert; brothers, John O. Gettys, Jr., James Earl Gettys and Joseph Benjamin Gettys.
Cathleen spent her childhood in Shelby, NC. She was a former resident of Hickory, NC (1949 to 2000) and Morganton, NC (2000-2013). She was a retired textile worker and was also a Certified Nursing Assistant. "Kitty" (a nickname since childhood) was an avid reader and loved flower gardening. She loved her cat and dog, KeKe and Tequila, that were lovingly placed in new homes when she could no longer care for them. Cathleen was a member of Icard Baptist Church (now First Baptist Church of Icard, NC). She was always involved in church and school activities for her children during their childhood. She attended Pleasant Grove Baptist Church in Morganton, NC whenever possible with her daughter.
