A service to celebrate the life of James O. Folsom Jr., 63, Tulsa, is Saturday, Nov. 19, 2011, at 1 p.m. at Boston Avenue United Methodist Church, 1301 South Boston, Tulsa.
The family will receive visitors at Moore Funeral Home, Rosewood Chapel, 2570 South Harvard Avenue Friday, Nov. 18 from 5-7:30 p.m.
Mr. Folsom died Tuesday, Nov. 15, 2011. He was born Aug. 13, 1948, to James and Stella Folsom in McAlester.
He is survived by his wife of 36 years Marcia Harter Folsom, son Ryan Folsom, and his parents James and Stella Folsom.
Mr. Folsom graduated from Plainview High School, East Central University in Ada and the University of Oklahoma where he received his master of science degree in environmental science from the School of Civil Engineering. He worked for Federal OSHA as a compliance officer and The Williams Companies before starting his own consulting firm in 1987.
He served multiple terms on the executive board and as president for both the Tulsa chapter of the American Society of Safety Engineers (ASSE) and the Oklahoma Chapter of the American Industrial Hygiene Association (AIHA). He also served as administrator of the management division of the national ASSE. He was awarded the Safety Professional of the Year (SPY) award for the local, regional and management division of ASSE. He also received the volunteer of the year award from the Oklahoma Safety Council.
