James Darwin Summers, 82 of Smithville, MO passed away Friday, December 28, 2013.

He was born on December 6, 1931 to Ivan Ray and Tinnie B. (Swaney) Summers in Smithville, MO where he grew up and graduated high school.

On September 2, 1950 he was united in marriage to Della Irene McKenzie Ackley. After their marriage they lived in Smithville, made their home in Lathrop, and after their retirement returned to Smithville.

Jim worked for KW Dart in Kansas City for over 20 years. He then operated a home improvement business for many years.

He was a member the First Christian Church in Smithville where he served as Elder.

Jim was preceded in death by his parents.

He is survived by his wife, Della, of the home; sons, Rick Summers, Ruby, NY, Mick Summers and wife Susan, Smithville, MO, John Summers and wife Kathy, Lathrop, MO, Terry Summers and wife Lana, Edgerton, MO, Kevin Summers and David, Orlando, FL; nine grandchildren, Richelle, Andrea, Sarah, Micah, Jonathan, Casey, James, Jesse, Arin; sixteen great- grandchildren; brothers, Jack Summers and wife Jean, Baltimore, MD and John Summers and wife Joyce, Smithville, MO; other relatives and many friends.

Funeral Service: 11:00 a.m. Thursday January 2nd at First Christian Church Smithville
Burial: Lutes Cemetery, Platte City, MO
Visitation: 6:00-8:00 p.m. Wednesday January 1st at the church.
Arrangements Hixson-Klein Funeral Home, Smithville.
In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the church.
