Julia Ann Vaughn Washington, 95, departed this earthly life on Tuesday, December 24, 2013 at the Tuomey Healthcare System in Sumter. Born on January 13, 1918 in Sumter County, she was the oldest of two children born to the late Albert and Mollie Vaughn.

Raised in a Christian home, she was a lifelong member of St. Luke A.M.E. Church, where she served faithfully in many capacities including: The Senior Choir and wherever her gifts and talents were needed.

She was employed at The Eastern Star Nursing Facility for over twenty-three years until her retirement. Her passion was to take care of others as well as a very generous person. She often visited other nursing facilities checking on the health and well-being of others, not only at the nursing facilities but in the community.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her son Clarence Taylor, a granddaughter Lakendra Washington, and a brother, Moses Vaughn.

Surviving are six sons: Johnnie (Priscilla) Washington, Ishmel (Shirley) Washington, Jr. Harvey (Lillian) Washington, Jimmy (Sandra) Washington, Melvin "Glenn" (Betty) Washington, and Perry (Rhonda) Washington, fifteen grandchildren, twenty-five great grandchildren, special cousins: Morris China, Kurlene Jackson, Mary Moses, Lucille Battles, and a host of other relatives and friends.

Funeral Services , St. Luke A.M.E. Church, 2355 St. Paul's Church Road, Sumter, SC, with Rev. E. Robert Thomas officiating.

Interment: St. Luke's Church Cemetery.
