Hiram C Olds was born at Shandaken in 1840 and died at Mt. Pleasant, Feb. 21, 1906. His father, Cornelius Olds, was killed by an accident when Hiram was about three years old. In 1864, Mr. Olds was married to Catherine Kelley. To them were born two children who died in childhood. Mrs. Olds died in 1899. In April, 1901, he was married to Mrs. Cornelia Lane, who died in August of the same year. Nov. 26, 1903, Mr. Olds married Mrs. Helen Leake Every, of Shokan, who with his mother in her 89th year survives him. For 14 years Mr. Olds managed the Col. Snyder farms in Woodland. Eleven years ago he purchased the Abram Longyear farm in Mt. Pleasant, where he since resided. The funeral services were held at his late residence on Saturday, Feb. 24th, and were conducted by his former pastor, Rev. P.N. Chase, of Sugar Loaf, assisted by Rev. J.A. Hurn, of Phoenicia. Interment at Shokan.

Notes: This is an undated obituary for Hiram C Olds that was found inserted on a separate sheet inside the Leake family bible, which was under the care of Helen Leake Every Olds, the wife of Hiram Olds at the time of his death in 1906.

Interment may have initially been in Shokan, in one of the many cemeteries that were moved with the coming of the Ashokan Reservoir not many years after the death of Mr. Olds.

Cemetery photos are by Fred Saar and Lorna Puleo. I just added them to the memorial.
