Actor, Writer. He is best remembered as a writer and actor on The Abbott and Costello Show for television from 1952 - 1954 and was in 50 episodes of the show. He also made over 70 appearances on The Abbott and Costello Show radio version in the mid-1940's where he introduced his famed Professor Melonhead character. He played small parts in Abbott and Costello's "Mexican Hayride", "Little Giant" and "Naughty Nineties" films. Throughout his career as a writer and actor he worked with such stars as Eddie Cantor, Rudy Vallee, Fred Allen and Milton Berle. Later in his life he continued to play small roles in television shows, he also worked as a writer for Jackie Gleason. Mr. Fields retired in 1975. He died of lung cancer at the age of 77. His wife, Marie, was seriously ill in the hospital at the time, and passed away shortly after.
