Funeral Services for Darin Hickel, 46 of New Hradec will be 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, September 13, 2011 at Stevenson Funeral Home, Dickinson. Visitation will begin Monday, September 12, 2011 from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. and will continue on Tuesday from 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. at Stevenson Funeral Home, Dickinson.

Darin passed away Thursday, September 8, 2011 at his home in New Hradec. Darin was born July 26, 1965 at Williston, ND, the son of Dean and Betty Jean (Danielson) Hickel. He grew up in Watford City and then Dickinson where he attended school. He worked in Dickinson for several years and spent a lot of time in the oilfield working on drilling and work-over rigs.

In 1990 Darin met Kayla Billman. They were married on April 2, 2005 in Dickinson. To this union, two children were born: Ethan and McKenna. Darin had his own carpentry business for a while as well as window tinting. He attended Aero Tech School in Fargo.

Darin fought kidney disease for many years and worked hard to overcome its disabilities. He was a good cook and was famous for his sausage and cheese buttons. Darin liked gardening and was very proud of his produce and loved to hunt, fish and play pool. He enjoyed making paddle fish weights and playing cards, especially pinochle.

Darin was a loving husband and father to his family and cherished the time spent with family and friends. Survivors include: his wife, Kayla; a son, Ethan Hickel, a daughter, McKenna Hickel all of New Hradec, ND; his mother, Betty Kordonowy and step-father, William Kordonowy, Bismarck, ND; four brothers: Daryl Hickel, Anchorage, AK, Randall ( Cathy) Hickel, Casper, WY, Allen (Rebecca) Hickel, Anchorage, AK and Bradley (Laura) Kordonowy, Dickinson, ND; a sister, Cheryl (Robert) Evjen, Williston, ND; three step-brothers: Gerald (Jill) Kordonowy, Livingston, MT, Dr. Ray (Margaret) Kordonowy, Ft. Myers, FL and Jonathan Kordonowy, Bismarck, ND; three step-sisters: Nadine (Glenn) Luiska, Wing, ND, Karen (Tom) Dvorak, Bearmouth, CO, Pauline (Art) Kathe, Lyme, CT; mother-in-law, Kathleen (Herbert) Billman, Dickinson, ND; two brothers-in-law, Kevin Billman, Brighton, CO and Keith (Jody) Billman, Dickinson, ND; two sisters-in-law, Karen (Eli) Cornell, Mandan, ND and Keyna (Charles) Kveum, Souris, ND and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his father, Dean Hickel; an infant brother and his grandparents.
