A son of Charles Mynn and Julianna Hughes Thruston, he was born in Connecticut during his father's service there in 1828. He was in service during the civil war, serving as Captain in the Regular Army 18th Infantry Regiment according to civil war records. His death was reported in the Weekly Civilian (Cumberland, Maryland) on 23 Jun 1864. He drowned when he fell from his boat on the night of the 14th in the Chesapeake and Ohio canal and was buried on the 16th.
