American Film Director, Screenwriter, Television Producer and Writer. He is best remembered as the co-creator, writer, and producer of the 1990s sitcom "The Fresh Prince of Bel Air". Born Jeffery Ian Pollack, he studied filmmaking at the University of Southern California in Los Angeles, California, graduating in the early 1980s. He then traveled through Asia as a tourist and documentarian for three years before returning to the US, where he worked in real estate development before devoting himself to an entertainment career. He founded a production company with music producer, talent manager, and record executive Benny Medina and they helped create "The Fresh Prince of Bel Air" in 1990. He continued writing producing and directing for the show until its end in May 1996. In 1992 and 1993 he produced two Billboard Music Awards and produced the TV documentary "Jennifer Lopez In Concert." In 1995 he and Medina renamed their company Handprint Entertainment, which has grown into a successful full-service management and production company. From April to October 1998 he produced the 20th Century Fox television sitcom "Getting Personal." His film credits include the director of "Above the Rim" (1994, starring Tupac Shakur, Leon, Duane Martin, and Marlon Wayans), "Booty Call" (1997, starring Jamie Foxx, Vivica Fox, and Tommy Davidson) and "Lost & Found" (1999, starring David Spade and Sophie Marceau) and was one of the producers of "The Fighting Temptations" (2003, starring Cuba Gooding, Jr. and Beyoncรฉ Knowles). He also served as executive consultant on television's "The Tyra Banks Show." He was found dead at the age of 54 on the Greenbelt in Hermosa Beach, California and the investigating authorities believe that he died of natural causes while exercising.
